The other day the National Trust magazine arrived with an article about a
new initiative to train apprentices in traditional skills like tool-making, fine carpentry, textile conservation, and stone masonry. The handful of businesses that we've talked to so far all mentioned their own troubles finding people who want to learn their trade--be it sewing machine repair or leatherwork. They have plenty of business, but they don't have anyone to pass their knowledge on to. Made us think that maybe we should start a UK branch of the
Fixer's Collective and do some matchmaking.
